A Little Something Extra!

Before we jump into the new tiles, we wanted to give a bit of context for why this update exists, especially for the many Imperia Hexica backers who pledged for the Omniversal Dominion collection.

When we launched Hexton Hills Campaign 01 back in 2020, it was during an incredibly strange moment in time. The world was locking down, we had no idea how the pandemic would unfold, and we took a leap of faith with a system we’d been developing since founding Graven Guild in 2017. We were proud of Hexton Hills, but genuinely had no idea how it would be received.

Then the campaign exploded. It went far beyond anything we expected and gave us the chance to support ourselves and our art for years to come. It was an amazing experience, but also a steep learning curve. With so many hex combinations, ideas, and stretch goals flying around, we quickly discovered that a huge modular system comes with huge complexity. Some sets needed extra support pieces, some tiles revealed new connection needs once built, and a few things inevitably slipped through the cracks.

From the start we promised ourselves we would deliver everything we committed to, no matter how long it took. Campaign 01 has technically been “complete” for a while and the allocated funds are long gone, but we still wanted to circle back and tie up the loose ends. These missing tiles have been on our minds for a long time, and we know some of you have been waiting patiently for them. Thank you for sticking with us.

Starter Set Roads (6 new tiles)

The missing road variations from the Starter Set have finally arrived. These basic connections are now added and ready to use. To access them, simply redownload the set.

Woodland Cliffs (7 new tiles)

Cliffs have always been intentionally plain so they could suit different biomes, but we’ve now created a woodland variant of the 7 existing cliff connections to broaden their versatility even further.

This also turned out to be a great test of how effectively we can remix existing terrain tiles to create fresh variations. We’re looking to explore more of this approach in future releases.

These new tiles have been added to Coast Set 01, which means they’re free for anyone who owns the set, the Terrain Collection, or any of the bundles.

Dock and Moat Wall Transitions (12 new tiles)

We didn’t realise at the time, but docks had no natural way to blend into the landscape. Given how large Epic Cities became, some of these trickier connection requirements only surfaced once the sets were fully developed. These tiles are a good example of essential but complex pieces that weren’t obvious during the initial planning phase.

EC Dock Set 03 includes left and right transition tiles for both docks and moat walls, letting them blend into beaches, cliffs, or riverbanks.

This set has been added to the Epic Cities Collection. If you already own it, it’s free. Otherwise, it’s available in the store.

With these tiles in place, Campaign 01 is officially complete! (again!) We delivered everything we set out to make, plus a load of bonus tiles and improvements along the way. Thanks for sticking with us and we hope the finished collection has been worth the wait!  Over 500 models?!

The tile guides have been updated to include all the new pieces, and they’ve all been added to the webapp as well. There’s currently a bug affecting missing woodland cliff variants, but we’ve flagged it with the devs and a fix should be on the way soon.

What’s next?

Work continues on the Imperia Hexica stretch goals, and the Battlements Set is shaping up nicely!

The standard set is almost complete, and development on the ruined states is well underway. We’ve also begun work on the ruined versions of the Hive City tiles. These, along with two new spires, will wrap up the Imperia Hexica campaign. Our goal is to have everything complete and released before the end of the year.

That’s all for now. We’ll be back soon with the Battlements Set release.

Keep it hexy,

Dan and Jax
